Vice President welcomes new Chief Justice Balakrishnan

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat hosted a dinner party last night to welcome Justice K G Balakrishnan, the new Chief Justice of India and bid farewell to his predecessor Justice Y K Sabharwal.

Extending a hearty welcome to the new Chief Justice of India, Mr Shekhawat wished him all success. He also bade farewell to Justice Sabharwal and wished him good health and a long life.

Among those who attended the dinner were former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Law Minister H R Bhardawaj and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Rehman Khan besides several Members of Parliament.

Judges of the Supreme Court, former Chief Justices, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy were among the invitees.
