New Delhi, Jan 16: Aviation, aerospace and defence major Textron Inc plans to expand its presence in the Indian market with sales touching one billion dollars in next five years, largely driven by its Bell helicopters and Cessna aircraft.

''We'll explore new business opportunities in India and neighbouring countries where long-term growth prospects are strong,'' said Textron's executive vice-president Mary Howell.

The 10 billion dollar multi-industry company is known globally for powerful brands like Bell helicopters, Cessna aircraft, Jacobsen, Kautex, Lycoming, E-Z-GO and Greenlee.

Operating in 33 countries with about 37,000 employees, the company leverages its global network of aircraft, industrial and finance businesses to provide customers with innovative solutions and services.

In India, Bell helicopters have been flying since early 1950s.

Textron's global technology centre in Bangalore has been in operations for nearly three years now and contributes to design and development of new products for all its business units.

''Textron recognises outstanding market opportunities, technical capabilities and talent pool in India and is committed to growth in the region,'' said Ms Howell.

Recently, former chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Nalini Ranjan joined Textron's Indian subsidiary.

In his role, Mr Mohanty will report to newly-appointed Textron's senior vice-president (international and marketing) R Siisi Adu-Gyamfi, and will be responsible for advancing company's globalisation strategy.
