Suspected Jamait-Ul-Islami member arrested from Petrapol
Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) A Bangladesh national, reportedly a member of the outlawed fundamentalist outfit Jamait-Ul-Islami, was arrested at Petrapol border in Bongaon yesterday when he infiltrated into Indian territory.
BSF Inspector General of Police (South Bengal) Somesh Goyal today said the arrested person claimed to be a deserter of the Bangladesh Army.
''He claims to be a deserter of the 41st Field Ambulance Unit of the Bangladesh Army and has confessed to have joined the Jamait-Ul-Islami, an outlawed fundementalist and militant organisation of Bangladesh, '' he said.
Search was on for an AK-47 rifle the man was reportedly carrying, he said.
Mr Goyal said the person was dressed as a porter when police arrested him before being handed over to BSF. He told BSF that he had entered India to visit a friend.
