Submit for affidavit no compensation to Khwaja's mother:HC to state
Mumbai, Jan 16 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to file an affidavit submitting that no compensation would be awarded to Khwaja Yunus' mother, for his alleged custodial death as according to the police he was absconding.
A division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Anoop Mohta were told that the Session Court had awarded a compensation to Asiya Khwaja but the same had been stayed by this court following the state's application opposing the compensation.
Earlier, according to the State's Crime Investigation Department, Khwaja was killed and they had sought permission from the Director General of Police to file a chargesheet against 14 policemen in the case.
Khwaja was arrested and booked under Prevention of Terrorist Activities Act in December 2, 2002 in connection with the Ghatkopar BEST bus blast in which two people were killed and 49 injured.
Khwaja was reported missing on January 7, 2003, after the police vehicle in which he was being taken to Aurangabad allegedly met with an accident.
The matter will now come up for hearing on January 18.
