Sikkim in grip of biting cold,MET office predicts relief

Gangtok, Jan 16 (UNI) A cold wave continued to lash the Himalayan state of Sikkim as the mercury plunged to near freezing point of 2.6 degrees in capital Gangtok and its surrounding areas today.

People had little solace as the maximum stood at 4.3 degrees Celsius which was 9.7 degrees below normal.

The local Met office predicted that the minimum temperature will remain around 2 degree Celsius tomorrow.

The sky will remain overcast with possibility of rain or a shower and moderate fog in some areas.

The weatherman said the upper air trough in the westerly wind field, that brought down the temperature, is likely to clear by tomorrow evening and move towards the north eastern states.
