Seven killed, six injured in road accident

Lakhimpur Kheri, Jan 16 (UNI) Seven people were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between a jeep and a tractor near Visauia crossing here today.

Police said the accident occurred on the Bahraich-Lakhimpur highway, when a jeep collided with a tractor-trolley laden with sugarcane.

While six jeep passengers died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Meanwhile, the six injured were recuperating in hospital.

Five of the deceased were identified as Durgesh (nine), Shiv Kumar (30), Ishwardin (55), Devendra Pratap Singh (30) and Durgesh Kumar (15). All of them were residents of Isanagar.

The jeep driver, however, fled after the incident.

A case had been registered.
