Robbers run away with booty

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Jan 16 (UNI) Two unidentified men robbed at knife point from a lover couple Rs 1700 in cash, two cellphones and a watch at Mammalapuram near here yesterday.

Police said Raleen, a 21-year-old boy, residing at Mannadi in Chennai had gone to the beach with his girl friend Thanmeen. a resident of Chennai.

Suddenly the robbers appeared and demanded money from them. When they refused, the robbers tied the man to a tree with a rope and hit the woman with an iron rod on her head and ran away with booty.

The man released himself and his lover with great difficulty and lodged a complaint with the Mammalapuram police.

The injured lovers were admitted to a private hospital in Kelambakkam hospital in the suburb.

Efforts were on to nab the robbers. A case has been registered and investigation was underway, police added.
