Railways to reply over surcharge from Ardh Kumbh pilgrims
Allahabad, Jan 16 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has asked the Railways to file the policy of surcharge being realised by the department during Ardh Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.
The Railways have to file its policy in the HC with affidavit.
The court will hear the case after three weeks.
A Division Bench comprising Justice S R Alam and Sudhir Agrawal passed this order on a writ petition filed by a local lawyer Ram Chandra Sharma.
His plea was that the realisation of surcharge from pilgrims is wrong.
The Railways filed a counter affidavit, opposing the petitioners' plea saying realisation of surcharge from pilgrims was a policy decision and the same is implemented for the welfare of pilgrims.
The surcharge is being realised from January 1, 2007 to February 28, 2007.
