Prakash to attend Law Ministers' meeting in Hyd tomorrow

Bangalore, Jan 16 (UNI) Karnataka Home and Law Minister M P Prakash today said he would attend a national meeting of Law Ministers in Hyderabad tomorrow to discuss ways and means for quick disposal of pending cases in various courts.

Talking to reporters here, he pointed out that 10.8 lakh cases were pending in the State as against the national figures of 2.55 crore.

Mr Prakash said the meeting would also discuss the Centre's proposal to set up Gramanyayalayas in rural areas.

The State Government had planned to fill 133 vacant posts of judicial officials shortly, the Minister said, adding that it had sanctined Rs 183 crore for constructing buildings for the Law department and providing housing facilities to judicial officials.

Referring to the National Human Rights Commission order regarding payment of compensation to those who suffered atrocities at the hands of the Special Task Force, constituted to nab forest brigand Veerappan, he said the Government had allotted Rs five crore for the purpose. The Government had to consider various legal aspects before sanctioning the payment, he added.
