Police constable trapped by ACB
Mumbai, Jan 16 (UNI) A police constable was today caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 from a person at the police station in south-central Mumbai.
ACB sources said complainant Pandurang Sutar had applied for a passport, and when police went to the given address for verification, Sutar was not there.
The room owner, a relative of Sutar, had informed the latter about the police visit after which Sutar approached the N N Joshi marg police station and met Narayan Rane, the constable.
Rane demanded Rs 5,000 to send a favourable report to the passport office. The deal was finally settled at Rs 2,500.
Simultaneously, Sutar lodged a complaint with the ACB office, Worli.
When Sutar went to pay Rs 2,500 at the police station, the ACB sleuths nabbed the constable.
