New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Paramjit Singh Sarna, today secured a majority in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), elections to which were held on January 14.

Sarna's SAD (Delhi) bagged 27 seats in the 46-seat committee while the Akali Dal (Badal) - Delhi, led by Avtar Singh Hit, won 12 seats, official sources said.

The Manjit Singh-led Panthak Akali Dal won six seats while one seat went to an independent, the sources said.

Polling for the committee, presently headed by Shiromani Akali Dal's Paramjit Singh Sarna, was held on Sunday with 35 per cent voter turnout recorded.

Polls to the Committee are supposed to be held every four years, but over the past decade, they have not been held regularly.

Though there are over 12 lakh Sikhs in Delhi, only around 4.5 lakh of them are registered voters for the DSGMC elections.
