NREGA to check migration from J'khand : Union Minister
Ranchi, Jan 16 (UNI) Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today said migration from rural areas of Jharkhand would be stopped by proper implementation of National Rural Employement Gurantee Act (NREGA).
Speaking at a party meeting here, he said proper implementation of NREGA would be helpful to check the migration of labourers from the state.
Mr Singh said hundred-day work provision had been mentioned in the Act and if the government failed to provide work, it had to pay unemployment allowance as fine to the labourers.
Criticising the erstwhile NDA government at the Centre for not being concerned about rural development, Mr Singh said budgetary provision for rural development in the last government was only Rs 9,000 crore, which had been increased to Rs 24,000 crore in the present fiscal by the UPA government.
