Srinagar, Jan 16 (UNI) There has been no respite from cold weather conditions in Kashmir with the minimum temperature hovering around minus 4.2 degree Celsius over the past two days.

The Valley recorded the coldest night of the season so far on Sunday when the minimum temperature plummeted to minus 6.1 degree Celsius due to which a major portion of Dal Lake was frozen.

Bone chilling cold with a very blustery wind has made the weather all the much colder in entire Kashmir over the past few days.

People in Kashmir brave the piercing cold with traditional kangris (fire-pots) and electronic room heaters besides 'pheron (long woollen coats)' and other warmers.

As the temperature has gone below the freezing point, water pipes in several areas in the Valley were jammed.

Weather office here said the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 4.2 degree Celsius while the maximum stood at 10.0 degree Celsius.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.2 degree Celsius while the maximum was at 21.6 degree Celsius.

The Met office predicted rains and snowfall in upper reaches, but dry weather in plains.
