New Delhi, Jan 16: There was no let up from the cold wave conditions in the capital today as the mercury dropped to 4.5 Degree Celsius.

With the cold Northerly winds continuing to blow unabated and ground frost conditions prevailing over some parts of Punjab and north Haryana, the minimum temperature, maintaining its downwards movement since Sunday, dropped from 4.8 Degree C yesterday to 4.5 Degree C today, two degrees below normal.

The coming days are unlikely to bring any respite from the severe chill with weathermen forecasting that the prevailing cold wave and ground frost conditions in Northwest India are likely to at least continue for the next 24 hours.

Infact, weathermen have forecast a minimum temperature of 5 Degree C tomorrow. Though weathermen have forecast a slight rise in night temperatures on Thursday, the chill could return towards the weekend with weathermen predicting snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday evening under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

Meanwhile, visibility levels in Delhi continued to remain normal with just a slight fog witnessed this morning. Weathermen said the minimum visibility this morning was 500 m, considered normal.

Weathermen have forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with slight fog expected in the morning hours.

Delhi has been experiencing a severe cold wave for the last two weeks with the temperatures hovering around the four degree mark on most days. In fact, last week saw the mercury drop to 2.6 Degree C, the second lowest in the last five years.
