NHRC full commission to hear UP cases from Jan 18

Lucknow, Jan 16: To dispose off a large number of pending cases in Uttar Pradesh, the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) would hold a full commission hearing in the state capital from January 18.

The three-day hearing would enable the commission dispose of several cases pending since long, sources said here today.

The commission headed by acting chairman Justice (retd) V Shivraj Patil and members justice (retd) Y Bhaskar Rao, R S Kalha and P C Sharma will also interact with the state government officials on January 20.

According to sources, the NHRC team will also query about their notices sent to the UP government over the Nithari serial killings.

On January 2, the NHRC had sent notices to the UP chief secretary and DGP regarding sexual abuse of children and their murder by two people in Nithari village in Noida.

Taking suo moto cognizance of reports appearing both in electronic media and newspapers, the Commission said if the contents of the reports are true, they reveal gross violation of human rights and in particular children because of certain acts of omissions on the part of public servants, who did not take timely action in the matter.

On January 13, the commission had also sought a report on the death of a physically challanged man in the custody of Sihani Police in Ghaziabad district.
