'Letters' wins Golden Globe for foreign film
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif, Jan 16 (Reuters) Director Clint Eastwood's searing drama about the World War Two battle for Iwo Jima from the Japanese point-of-view, ''Letters from Iwo Jima,'' won the Golden Globe award for best foreign language film.
The Japanese-language film won the honor over a competitive range of movies that included Mel Gibson's ''Apocalypto,'' which was made in a Mayan dialect, and Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's ''Volver.'' The Golden Globe awards are given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are among Hollywood's top film honors.
