Fathres-in-Law husband arrested for killing woman fo dowry

Kolhapur, Jan 16 (UNI) Police have arrested the father-in-law and husband of a woman for allegedly burning her to death over dowry at their residence in the Mahalaxminagar area of the district.

Police today identified the accused as Salim Nazir Sheikh (25) and his father, Nazir Sheikh (55).

Salim had married Vahida (23) two years ago. However, she was repeatedly tortured by her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law over insufficient dowry, according to her dying declaration, police said.

On Sunday evening, there was an argument between her and her mother-in -law over a petty issue, when Vahida threatened to immolate herself and even poured kerosene over her body.

Salim, who was standing nearby, allegedly seized the opportunity and set her ablaze inflicting severe burn injuries on her, according to Vahida's testimony.

Though she was rushed to the nearby civil hospital, she succumbed to her burn injuries yesterday, police added.
