DUJ calls for Media Comm to replace Press Comm

New Delhi, Jan 16: Delhi Union of Journalists has demanded setting up of a Media Commission to replace the Press Commission, which will bring into its ambit all forms of electronic mass media as well as the print media.

General body meeting of the organisation welcomed the announcement of a fresh Wage Board for newspaper industry and demanded its implementation, a statement said today.

DUJ also raised a demand to end the contract system of appoinments in the industry.

The organisation announced the opening of Delhi Media Research Centre to study issues affecting the press and its freedom. The centre would have a language desk to focus on language media, particularly the neglected Urdu press.

It also announced its plan to come out with directory of journalists in the city.

DUJ's GBM expressed concern at the situation in Naitonal Herald and Quami Awaz newspaper group.
