Dover Lane Music Conference begins on January 22

Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) Leading lights of various gharanas of classical music are set to add glamour to the Dover Lane Music Conference, one of the prestigious annual programmes of Indian classical music in the city.

The four day event, beginning January 22, will feature Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his son Ayyan Ali Khan Bangas and Tejendra Narayan Majumdar(All Sarod),Pandit Jasraj,Ustad Rashid Khan,Vasundhara Komkali,Kausiki Deshikan and Ajoy Chkraborty(Vocal),Pandit Hari Prasad Chourasia(Flute),Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma(Santoor),Shujaat Khan and Purbayan Chatterjee(Sitar).

The performances will be held through three nights and one day till midnight at the city's largerst open air stadium at Nazrul Manch.

The annual conference not only presents the country's best talents but also encourages budding artistes by providing them a suitable platform.

Eminent vocalist Amiya Ranjan Banerjee, an exponent of Bishnupur gharana, would be awarded the prestigious Annual Sangeet Samman for 2006 for his rich contribution in his field of music.

This apart about 20 young talents of eight different segments would be awarded by the Dover Lane Music Conference, said Conference president Pradipta Sen.
