Cold wave persists in HP

Shimla, Jan 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh continues to groan under intense cold wave with night temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar district of the state plummeting to minus 6.1 degree Celsius despite another bright and sunny day today.

People continue to shiver at Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bhuntar in Kullu district with minimum temperatures dropping to minus point two and minus point four degrees respectively.

Both Sundernagar and Bhuntar had recorded night temperatures of 1.2 and 1.5 degree Celsius respectively yesterday.

The minimum temperature at Shimla increased by a few notches at 2.7 degrees as compared to two degree Celsius yesterday.

The minimum temperatures in the higher altitude areas of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba continue to remain between minus 15 and minus 25, freezing all natural water sources and decreasing water discharge in the rivers of the state.

The day and night temperatures in mid and lower hills of the state were being recorded one to three degree below normal and the met office said the cold conditions were likely to remain for another few days.

The entire state was in the grip of an intense coldwave despite continuous dry spell in the state, the met office added.
