CM to lay foundation stones for 5 new projects

Chennai, Jan 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stones for five new projects, involving a total investment of Rs 1,550 crore, tomorrow, when he inaugurates the 125th celebration of Chennai Port Trust.

Addressing newspersons here, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu said the Chief Minister, would also lay the foundation stone for the Rs 492 crore second container terminal to be built under the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

The Chief Minister would also lay the foundation stone for a Rs 500 crore iron ore terminal, Rs 300 crore coal berth and Rs 200 crore liquid terminal, all at the Ennore satellite port, he said.

These projects were part of the 276 port development projects, identified by the National Marine Development Programme (NMDP) to be implemented in all ports in the country during the 11th five year plan.

All these projects would be completed by the year 2012, involving a total investment of about Rs 60,000 crore, Mr Baalu said adding that the MNDP had also identified 111 shipping projects to be implemented by 2027, involving a total investment of about Rs 45,000 crore.
