Centre offers Rs 440.60 cr for Bengal Chem revival

Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) Bengal Chemical&Pharmaceutical Ltd (BCPL), a PSU founded by Dr Acharya P C Roy, has received a lifeline of Rs 440.60 crore from the Centre for its revival and modernisation of its unit.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark the occasion, Union Minister of Chemicals, Fertilisers and Steel Ram Vilas Pashwan said here today that the workers and the management should contribute substantially to make proper utilisation of the revival package.

He said the funds will be utilised for modernisation of the plant and equipment, expansion of capacity, new product development, marketing and Reasearch and development.

Speaking about the need for new products in the global era of competition, union Fertiliser and Chemical secretary Satwant Reddy said the company should focus on new product development like anti-rabies vaccines. BCPL has already tied up with Pasteur Laboratory under government of India for manufacturing this vaccine.

Company MD P H Phani said they would also beef up promotion and marketing of the products.
