BJP organises march to Nandigram, demanding compensation
Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) The West Bengal BJP today organised a protest march to Nandigram in East Midnapore district, demanding cancellation of the government land acquisition policy and an adequate compensation to the victims of last week's violence.
Billing it as a Kolkata-Nandigram walk, more than 1,000 BJP workers, led by state party general secretary Rahul Sinha and secretaries Badsha Alam and Anima Basu, took part in the protest march, which ultimately culminated in a rally at Sonachura Village at Nandigram.
Addresing the gathering, the BJP leaders lambasted the state government and demanded immediate scrapping of the land acquisition policy.
They also demanded payment of adequate compensation to the tune of Rs five lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the violence and Rs two lakh each to the injured.
Later, the protestors left for Kolkata and decided to cover the entire 120-km distance from Nandigram on foot.
