Arunachal Police bustes arms racket, seizes arms
Itanagar, Jan 16: Arunachal Pradesh police has busted a gang dealing with small arms and arrested three arms dealers at Naharlogun here yesterday.
Police had also seized two 9 mm pistols, including one Chinese made, with three live rounds from their possession.
Papum Pare Superintendent of Police Chukhu Appa told that illegal arms were being smuggled here and police had been monitoring the racket for quite sometime.
Acting on a tip off and intelligence reports, a police team successfully captured two arm dealers from Wakka village under Longding circle of Tirap district and recovered a loaded gun from them, Mr Appa said.
However, one of the three arrested ones managed to escape, while a former self-styled chairman of Liberation Tigers of Arunachal (LTA) Anthony Doke of Paimuri village under Gensi circle of West Siang district was arrested, Appa said adding that Doke was released on January last year after spending over three and half years in jail.
During interrogation, Doke had admitted that the trio had come here to deliver him the arms for which he had paid Rs 55,000 on January two against a deal of Rs one lakh, the SP added.
