Akalis lodged complaint against Ms Bhattal

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded strict action against Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and the Congress party for violating model code of conduct.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, SAD Secretary Daljit Singh Cheema today alleged that letters are being written on back dates by the office of the Deputy Chief Minister for providing tubewell connections to the voters of Lehra assembly constituency on priority basis from the discretionary quota of the state electricity board chairman.

A copy of one such letter, sent to the party head office by the SAD candidate from Lehra, Prem Singh Chandumajra, was also forwarded to the Commission. Ms Bhattal the sitting MLA from Lehra, is expected to be again fielded by the Congress.

Dr Cheema said this was a clear cut case of favouritism and bribery and aimed at securing more votes in the elections to the Punjab assembly scheduled for February 13. In addition, it is also an interference in the internal working of the the Punjab State Electricity Board. The SAD demanded that the Commission should deal with case strictly.
