6 held for suicide bid
Lucknow, Jan 16 (UNI) Police today arrested 'Vishwakarma Samaj' vice president Santosh Kumar Sharma along with his five aides, when they were attempting self-immolation in front of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly precincts in Hazratganj area here.
Police said the activists were sitting on a fast-unto-death strike since yesterday in front of the Vidhan Sabha to protest the ''anti-Vishwakarma'' policies of the state government.
They had also written a letter to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav warning ''if their demands were not met, they would immolate themselves.'' However, police reached the spot in time and nabbed Santosh, Ved Prakash Sharma, Pramod Kumar, Anjani Kumar Sharma, Mohd Ansari and Mukesh Kumar.
A case has been registered.
