TN Ministers launch free LPG connection

Chennai, Jan 15: A day after Chief Minister M Karunanidhi launched free LPG connections with gas stoves, his cabinet colleagues inaugurated the scheme today in their respective region.

While Electricity Minister Arcot N Veeraswamy launched the scheme at Shenoy Nagar area in the city, Information and Publicity Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuti launched at Shenoy Nagar at Egmore and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin at Tondiarpet and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan at Prakasam Salai.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Shipping and Road Transport T R Baalu and his cabinet collegue Dayanidhi Maran launched the scheme at Besand Nagar and Chintadripet respectively.

The launching of the scheme yesterday by Mr Karunanidhi marked the fulfilment of yet another poll promise given by the DMK, which had returned to power on the strength of a slew of promises made in the election manifesto.

Under the scheme, about three lakh gas connection would be provided to the poor families by the end of March this year and the government had allocated Rs 60 crore for the scheme.
