TN Govt institutes new medal for cops

Chennai, Jan 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu government has announced institution of a new medal for excellence in technical special services this year.

Announcing the new award, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the medal would be awarded to six technical employees belonging to the radio branch, police photograph department and dog squad.

The recipients of the medals would be eligible for lump sum grants ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 depending on their ranks, an official release said here.

Giving a virtual Pongal Gift to the police, fire service and prison department cops, the government announced Chief Minister's constabulary medals to 1,500 police personnel in the ranks of police constables, head constables and those personnel with equivalent ranks.

Further Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's fire service medals would be awarded to 80 fire and rescue personnel in the ranks of firemen, drivers, upgraded leading firemen and officials with equivalent ranks.

Apart from this, Chief Minister's Prison medals for good service would be given to 20 prison service personnel in the rank of grade-I and grade-II warders.

The Chief Minister's medal winners would be eligible for a monthly allowance of Rs 40 to Rs 50 depending on their ranks from February one this year.

The medals would be presented on a date to be fixed by the Director General of Police, the Director of fire and rescue services and the Additional Director of prisons.
