Terrorist groups will not succeed in their nefarious designs: PM

On Board Air India One, Jan 15 (UNI) On the eve of his visit to the violence-hit areas of Asom, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the Centre was firm in its resolve to work with the government and the people of the state to ensure thatthe terrorist groups did not succeed in their nefarious designs.

Dr Singh is due to visit the violence-hit areas of Asom tomorrow after spending the night in Kolkata tonight on his way back from Cebu in the central Philippines where he attended the 5th India-ASEAN Summit and the 2nd East Asia Summit.

'' There will be no compromise with these insurgent groups,'' he told journalists on his way back from Cebu without naming the United Liberation Front of Asom.

At the same time, he emphasised that all problems of any group could be sorted out through dialogue.

'' Therefore, there is no scope for any group to take recourse to violence to express its point of view,'' he said He expressed sadness over the deaths of innocent people in the recent spate of violence in the state and said it was the duty of the government to protect honest and law-abiding citizens '' We will work with the government of Asom to ensure that all people in the state, whether Hindi-speaking or those who speak other languages, feel safe and secure, '' he added.

More than 70 Hindi-speaking people were killed by ULFA in Asom last week.
