Tata Motors officials manhandled by villagers
Kolkata, Jan 15 (UNI) Agitated villagers gheraoed and manhandled a team of Tata Motors officials at Singur in West Bengal today when they went to the area to visit the site for the proposed small car factory.
Under the banner of ''Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee,'' the demonstrators stopped the car, shouted slogans against land acquisition and tried to drag the officials out of the vehicle.
Police said the Tata officials were, however, rescued as a force rushed to the area and escorted them out of the village.
Tata Motors plans to invest around Rs 1,000 crore for the car plant. The company had sought 1,000 acre from the government for this purpose.
