Salem Steel Plant inks pact with Dasturco

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) Salem Steel Plant (SSP) today appointed M N Dastur&Company (P) Ltd, Kolkata (Dasturco) as consultant cum project manager for the Rs 1,553 crore expansion projects of the plant.

The consultancy agreement was signed at Salem by Mr P M Balasubramanian, Executive Director on behalf of SAIL, SSP and Mr S Das Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director on behalf of Dasturco in the presence of senior officers from both sides, with a validity period of five years.

Dasturco won the contract against global bidders to provide consultancy services to SSP in the areas of contract management, design and engineering and project management for installation of a new steel melting.

It also won for continuous casting facilities to produce 180,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of stainless steel slabs, expansion of the existing cold rolling complex to enhance the production of cold rolled stainless steel from 65,000 TPA to 146,000 TPA and installation of an additional roll grinding machine for hot rolling mill for enhancing the production to 370,000 TPA of hot rolled coils.

On completion of the expansion, SSP will become an integrated steel plant through backward integration and thus will overcome existing constraints of sourcing stainless steel slabs and is expected to improve its market share both in the domestic and export markets, a company release here said.
