PM not to contest Amritsar LS by poll

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is unlikely to contest the Lok Sabha by-election from Amritsar in the seat vacated by BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Ruling out the possibility of Dr Manmohan Singh contesting the Lok Sabha bypoll, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh told reporters here today that the Prime Minister himself had said that ''neither me nor any member of my family will contest the elections in the State''.

PCC President Shamsher Singh Dullo had talked to Dr Singh in this connection last week, Capt Singh said.

The Chief Minister also informed that Dr Singh's brother had met him earlier when he had told him that ''he will not be contesting the election''.
