Oppn parties oppose Potireddipadu Project

Hyderabad, Jan 15 (UNI) The Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) and the Left today opposed the Potireddipadu Project aimed at providing water to Rayalaseema Region.

Participating in a discussion on the project organised by a private news TV channel here, the TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao alleged the project was against the interests of backward Telangana Region.

The flood waters of River Krishna should be allocated as per the tribunal orders, he added.

TDP Senior Leader N Janardhan Reddy said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had taken up the project to provide water to his Kadapa District by transferring the allocated water to Rayalaseema.

Alleging the government was not transparent in the allocation of water to three regions equally, CPI State Secretary K Narayana and CPM State Secretary B V Raghavulu demanded the government allay the apprehensions among the people on the project before releasing water to other regions.

State Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah said the govenrment was committed to provide water to all regions as they required without violating tribunal guidelines.

The project would not harm the backward Telangana region and Krishna delta farmers, he asserted.
