Mizoram cabs issue turned down in high court
Aizawl, Jan 15 (UNI) The Guwahati High court has turned down the appeal of Zoram Taxi Drivers' Association (ZTDA) on the issue of taxis to run on alternate days according to their registration numbers.
The high court had issued a showcause notice to the state government following the appeal of the ZTDA last month.
According to state law department, high court dismissed the petition citing the reason that it was the matter of state authority and court would not interfere in the matter.
ZTDA president Liantluanga, quoting the paper, said the drivers' organisation was not happy.
The ZTDA has strong objections to the government's decision of service on alternate days saying the decision has arbitrarily cut off the livelihood of taxi drivers.
ZTDA also alleged that at least five drivers have lost their jobs because of the new service system as the taxi owners could not afford to pay their salaries.
