Kite flying festival claims four lives
Surat, Jan 15 (UNI) Four people died in various incidents, related with the Uttarayan kite flying festival, in different parts of the city yesterday, police sources said today.
Despite a warning by local police and various organisations to be cautious during kite flying, four deaths were reported in the city yesterday.
In Udhna, Mahendra Atmaram Patil (21), who went to his friend's house in Nanpura Mohalla area, fell from the third floor of a building, while flying a kite, and was seriously injured. Even though Patil was admitted to New Civil Hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries, police sources said.
In another incident, Deepak Bhagan Khadith(21) fell from the terrace of a building while he was engaged in kite flying near Mission Hospital and died, sources said.
Aravindbhai Lallubhai Patel(45) fell from his residence at Sangrampura while trying to fly a kite. He sustained head injuries and died at Civil Hospital, while Khajeb Abbas Dhaginwala(38), a resident of Randher, had his throat slashed by the sharp ''manja'' thread of a kite when he was travelling in a bike. He was admitted to a nearby hospital but died yesterday, the sources added.
