Grenade attack on HC Chairman's house, window panes damaged
Srinagar, Jan 15 (UNI) The house of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was today attacked by unidentified persons when they fired a rifle grenade causing damage to some window panes, official sources said.
They said the grenade fired from some unidentified destination, however, missed the intended target and exploded in the kitchen garden of the neighbouring house, about 100 feet away from the Mirwaiz's house.
The outer compound wall of the neighbouring house was damaged in the blast.
Some window panes of the Mirwaiz's house also damaged due to the impact of the blast. However, no one was injured in the explosion, sound of which was heard in the entire area.
The HC is currently in Jammu along with other Hurriyat leaders.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) and other senior police and civil officials visited the house.
They also inspected the area where the grenade had exploded.
The house owner Qazi Nizamuddin and his family members are away in Kerala, sources said.
This was the second attack on the house of Mirwaiz since he joined the Hurriyat Conference after the assassination of his father Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq in 1990. Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq was killed by unidentified gunmen in his house on May 21,1990.
