God-man fighting for attaining 'Samadhi'

Thane, Maharashtra, Jan 15 (UNI) Tension prevailed here today as a twenty-year-old Sadhu from Vasai, Jayesh Kisan alias Parameshwar Baba, meditating since the age of ten is now engaged in fighting a battle with the authorities to attain 'Samadhi', after being detained under charges of attempt to commit suicide.

He was arrested with 25 of his disciples, including a large number of female disciples and held at the Thane district central jail last week.

At a press conference today BJP district president Chintaman Wangan and senior party leader Om Prakash Sharma, criticised the government's action on the Baba stating it as ''a matter of shame.'' He said the BJP has taken a serious note of the matter and threatened to launch an agitation against the government if ''anything happens to Baba.'' Local BJP MLA Vishnu Sawra has also warned the government against committing atrocities on Godmen.

The administration has taken the matter seriously and additional forces of the State Reserve Police (SRP) and the Forest department guards have been deployed in the area.

''This will be a lesson for this society which is full of anarchy and corruption,'' the God-man declared here today.

While the police have booked him under section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he is determined to go ahead with his decision whether inside or outside the jail premises.

While the police says that the Baba's act of ending his life by attaining 'Samadhi' is infact suicide, the Sadhu justifies himself by pointing out that his actions do not involve consuming poison or hurting himself with any weapon.

''Sadhus should be allowed to take Samadhi as per their wish.

The need of the hour now is a national debate on the issue. A suitable legislation should also be passed to this effect,'' he demanded.

District collector Mr SS Zende has taken a serious view of the matter and issued a public warning asking citizens to desist from assembling in the area.
