Elaborate security arrangements for ''Kaanum Pongal'': Police

Chennai, Jan 15 (UNI) Police have made elaborate security arrangements at all important places in the city in the light of ''Kaanum Pongal'' on January 17 marking the culmination of four-day Pongal festivities in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking after participating in Pongal celebrations here city Police Commissioner Letika Saran said tight vigil was being maintained in all places, especially at the Marina Beach where hundreds and thousands of people were expected to gather.

Police personnel would be manning the entire beach road where large number of people were expected to visit the MGR and Anna Samadhis and the Light House.

Barricades have been erected on the sea front to prevent people from bathing in the. Horse-mounted personnel would patrol the seashore.

Ms Saran said strict vigil would be maintained in all public places.
