Aeromagnetic survey to explore petroleum in Bihar

Patna, Jan 15(UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today launched an ambitious project for exploring petroleum in 15,500 sq km stretched area of Ganga basin through aeromagnetic survey.

After kicking off the project here, Mr Kumar said that Cairn India Limited would collect data through aeromagnetic survey in Ganga basin to trace the presence of petroleum. He referred to the primary survey conducted by the Centre in 2001 and said that at several places in Ganga Basin the surveyers had found smell of kerosene and petroleum in the water of the Ganga basin. After this survey a block of Ganga basin was traced and now the Carin India is proceeding with exploration.

Quite hopeful of getting petroleum in Ganga basin, Mr Kumar said the success of the project would benefit the entire nation specially Bihar and the loss due to carving out Jharkhand from Bihar would be fulfilled.If the petroleum was found it would prove to be a milestone in the development of Bihar as its economic status would be strengthened.

He said once the aeromagnetic survey is over Cairn India would undertaking the ground survey.
