4385 file nominations for Zilla Parishad elections in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15 (UNI) Altogether 4385 candidates have filed their nominations for the Zilla Parishad elections scheduled to be held in Orissa in five phases from February 13.

Official sources said the scrutiny of all the 4385 nominations would be taken up tomorrow while the withdrawal of the nominations has been slated for January 19 next.

All the three major political parties-the Biju Janata Dal,the BJP and the Congress have decided to go it along in the elections while the Orissa Gana Parishad,the CPI, the CPM and the Janata Dal(S) have agreed for sharing of seats for the Zilla Parishad members.

Elections would be held for the 854 Zilla Parishad members post spread over 30 districts in the state.

Official sources said while a maximum 383 candidates had filed nominations for 56 Zilla parishad members seat in the tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district,only 31 candidates submitted their nominations for seven Zilla Parishad members seat in Deogarh in Western Orissa.
