Thousands take holy dip on Sankranti day
Agartala, Jan 14 (UNI) Thousands of pilgrims took holy dips in rivers and ponds throughout the state early in the morning today on occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Large number of people in traditional attires took holy dip at Unokuti and Tirthmukh Gomti river in Kailashahar and Amarpur sub-divison of North and South districts respectively.
A two-day fair has also been arranged in Unokuti and Tirthmukh where state government opened a number of stalls and arranged for various programmes, including cultural ones, whole night.
Security had been beefed up at Unokuti and Tirthmukh to avoid untoward incidents mainly by the militants.
However, no such cases have been reported so far, official sources said.
The two day festival was inaugurated by the state's Tribal Welfare Minister Jitendra Chowdhury yesterday at Tirthmukh.
