India to discuss narcotics smuggling with Maldives

New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) India and Maldives are expected to step up cooperation in tackling terrorism, organised crimes and smuggling in narcotics, official sources said.

A four-member delegation led by Home Secretary V.K.Duggal will leave here for Male tomorrow on a two-day official visit which is primarily aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in security matters, especially coastal security.

The Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau would be a member of the delegation.

Home Ministry sources said Mr Duggal will discuss measures to increase co-operation between the two countries for tackling terrorism, organised crimes and smuggling in narcotics.

Mr Duggal will also call on some senior political leaders of Maldives, including their Home Minister.

The Home Secretary will also usse the occasion to invite the Maldives Home Minister, Home Secretary and DGP for the SAARC Home Ministers meeting which India is scheduled to host later this year.
