Free LPG connection for 3 lk BPL families: Murali

Chennai, Jan 14: Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural GasMurali Deora today said the Centre would provide about three lakh freeLPG connections for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at a function organised for free distribution of LPGconnection and Gas stoves to families here, he said ''following arequest from Tamil Nadu government it has been decided to provide aboutthree lakh free LPG connection to BPL families.'' ''Apart from this, apiped natural gas supply project will also be launched very soon inTamil Nadu for two crore households like in Mumbai and Delhi''he added.

''This will not only improve the quality of gas but there won't beany shortage of LPG supply in Tamil Nadu'', Me Deora said and furtherthe Centre would set up more gas bottling plants in coming months tomeet the demand for LPG.

Mr Deora also urged the Tamil Nadu government to consider usingCNG in for public transport to reduce the increasing pollution in thecities.

''I expect Tamil Nadu to join Delhi and Mumbai to setup CNG in public tranport'' he added.

On the petrol and diesel price, the Minister said the Centre waskeen to reduce the petrol and diesel price whenever the internationaloil prices went down.
