Cold toll reaches 110 in UP

Lucknow, Jan 14 (UNI) The biting cold wave conditions sweeping Eastern Uttar Pradesh claimed one more life, taking the toll to 110 so far.

The Met attributed the extreme cold conditions to snowfall in Uttarakhand. The weatherman have forecast a further drop in mercury in the coming days.

According to weatherman, dry icy winds lashed the state, making people shiver even during the day despite bright sunshine. ''In the absence of humidity, dry weather would continue in the state,'' they added.

A report from Basti said a person died of cold under Lalganj police station area during the last 24 hrs.

Allahabad, Faizabad, Bareilly, Agra, Jhansi, Lucknow and Kanpur divisions witnessed a dip in the night temperature, the met office told UNI here.

Agra at 3.4 degrees Celsius -- 4 degree below normal -- was the coldest place in UP. Sultanpur recorded 4 degrees C, followed by 5 degrees C each in Jhansi, Bareilly and Bahraich.

Fog continued to play havoc on the schedule of trains. 4723/4724 Kalindi Express, 5003/5004 Chauri Chaura Express and Farukhabad Passenger have been suspended till January 31.

According to reports, people are posed with problems due to heavy load shedding in Mahoba, Allahabad, Siddharthnagar, Moradabad, Badaun, Bulandshahr, Bagpat, Saharanpur and Bijnaur districts of UP.

Mornings would continue to be foggy. However, the density of fog would depend on moisture content in the atmosphere in the coming days.
