11 wounded in grenade attacks, LeT militant arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 14 (UNI) At least 11 people, including six security personnel, were wounded in separate grenade attacks while a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was arrested in Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said today.

He said militants hurled a hand grenade on security forces near Shah Cinema at Qamarwari here last evening.

The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to five civilians. The wounded have been hospitalised.

The spokesman said motorcycle-borne militants lobbed a hand grenade on a security force picket at the Boulevard Road on the banks of the famed Dal Lake here, causing injuries to three Central Reserve Police Force personnel.

Militants hurled a grenade on a security force post at Aali Mosque near Eidgah here, resulting in injuries to three personnel.

In a joint operation, the spokesman said police and troops of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) arrested an LeT Militant, identified as Zahoor Ahmed Magray, a resident of Duggerpora, from Safalpora Kralgund in Handwara area of Kupwara district last evening.

One UBGL grenade, a Chinese grenade, one kg of explosive material, one electric detonator and ten rounds of AK ammunition were seized from his possession, he added.

The spokesman said Police today intercepted a passenger bus, on way to Pulwama from Pakherpora, in Muran area and seized two hand grenades from a coal bag. Two people were taken into custody for questioning in this regard, he added.

During a checking of a bus, which was on way to Srinagar from Sopore last evening, police apprehended a suspect at Parimpora on the city outskirts and seized one hand grenade from his possession.
