Young farmer commits suicide in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Jan 13 (UNI) A 22-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide in Gadinglaj tehsil of this district, police today said.

The farmer identified as Vishal Vilas Shivare of Khamletpatti village committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house yesterday late afternoon.

Vishal's father Vilas had borrowed loans from a bank and also from co-operative credit society. However, he failed to return the amount in time, and then took another loan from a private money lender to repay the bank interest, police said.

Since the loan amount went on increasing, tension spread in the Shivare family. Power was also cut due to non payment of electricity bills. This affected the motor-pump set, leading to standing sugarcane crops getting spoilt, due to non availability of water supply.

Frustrated over the situation, Vishal committed suicide, police added.
