Guwahati, Jan 13 (UNI) The banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) today threatened that it would not hesitate to train its gun on workers and leaders of the ruling Congress in the state in case Assamese youth were killed by the Army.

However, the ruling party chose to put up a brave front in the face of renewed threat from the ULFA. AICC leader Chandan Bagchi and State Congress president Bhubaneswar Kalita, who had visited violence-hit Tinsukia and Dibrugarh district areas of Upper Asom, said such threat was not new to the party.

The commander of the outfit's 28th battalion, Prabal Neog, in a statement given to the local media here warned that no Congress worker would be spared if the Army, which had intensified operation against the militant group in Upper Asom district in the wake of killing of Hindi-speaking people by the militants, killed any Assamese youth.

The banned militant group stated that the politicians from the Hindi-heartland were now making a beeline to the state to shed crocodile tears with an intention to create division among the people in the wake of killing of Hindi-speaking people.

The ULFA commander, however, remained silent as to who was involved in the carnage of Hindi-speaking. The 28th battalion of the militant group has been primarily held responsible by the police and the Army for the inhuman attacks of Hindi-speaking migrant workers.

The Congress leader who had gone to visit violence-affected areas of Upper Asom today told the media here that whatever the ULFA had done (killings of innocent Hindi-speaking people) was not in the interest of the people of the state.

They alleged that the militant group had committed such heinous act on influence from outside forces inimical to the country.
