Srinagar, Jan 13 (UNI) Demanding transfer of five power projects to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today said industrial setup still awaits to take-off in the state for want of electricity.

Maintaining that development and progress is subservient to availability of adequate power energy, she underscored the need for paying added attention towards power generation in the state, which is endowed with abundant water resources.

Addressing Party Workers rally at Kangan Ms Mufti said harnessing the available water resources can make the state self sufficient in power generation.

The industrial setup in the state still awaits to take off for want of electricity, she said adding that once a strong industrial base is made in the state, the problems of un-employment would be contained to a great extent.

She suggested for taking both long and short term measures for increasing the power generation in the state adding that in the short term mini-hydro electric projects can be completed with lesser investment to take care of a particular area.

Making a case for state ownership over water resources, Ms Mufti demanded the transfer of Baghliar, Pakal-Dul, Swalakote, Uri and Dul-Hasti power projects to the state.

She also asked for improvement in system operation and distribution of power supply by replacing outdated poles and wire which is in a bad shape all over the state particularly in the valley.
