Testa Setalvad selected for Nani Palkhivala award 2006

Mumbai, Jan 13 (UNI) Noted civil liberties activist Teesta Setalvad has been chosen for the Nani A Palkhivala memorial award for 2006 for the ''preservation and protection of civil liberties in India''.

The Panel of judges comprising Mr Justices M N Venkatachaliah and S P Bharucha--both former Chief Justice of India, and Mrs Anu R Aga, former Chairperson, Thermax India Ltd did not consider any organisation worthy of this Award.

The award will be presented to her by Justice S P Bharucha at a function to be held here on Monday.

On this occasion, the biography of Nani Palkhivala will be released and the fourth Nani Palkhivala Memorial Lecture will be delivered by infosys chairman N R Narayana Murthy.

The award, is instituted by the Nani A Palkhivala Memorial Trust in 2005, given to an individual and an organisation annually for exceptional work for the preservation and protection of civil liberties in the country.
