Police arrest 1000 opposition activists for blocking traffic
Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, Jan 13 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathicharge and arrested nearly 1000 activists of TDP, CPI, CPI(M) and BSP as they blocked the busy National Highway for more than four hours, protesting against the closure of Gutti RTC Depot in this district.
TDP MLA Paritala Sunita and former TDP MP Kalwa Srinivas led the agitation. They were later released on personal bond.
The opposition leaders had alleged that the depot was closed to benefit certain Congress leaders.
Tension prevailed when the police arrested TDP MLA Paritala Sunita, wife of TDP MLA Paritala Ravindra, who was slain by unknown assailant.
The murder case was being investigated by the CBI.
